I had the huge honor of visiting the crew at Brennan Ranch in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Brennan Ranch holds a grazing permit through the BLM (Bureau of Land Management). By bringing their cattle into the mountains to graze during the summer, they keep the fire danger of the area down while getting the opportunity to feed their herd. This tranquil setting was full of grit and legacy. Every day, these cowboys and cowgirls face difficulties not normally seen on the range. From rattlesnakes to bears, sharing the land with recreational hobbyists, and keeping track of cattle as they move through the heavily forested mountainside - there is plenty to keep them on their toes. They also are responsible for the 100+ year old cabin that is their base of operations. It was a honor getting to hear their stories and capture a small sliver of their summer.
